Kid stories - The mirror whisperer

Last night as Ode played in his exersaucer, he stopped bouncing and put his hands around the little mirror on there, and was staring at himself in the mirror
then he started talking to his mirror image, leaning forward as he talked
then he was whispering to his mirror image
it was hilarious!!!
AnYA.. AnnnnYA.. Ahhh.. NYAAAAA
I dont know what it means..
its his favorite word these days
He was yelling it in the library the other day

My dad said this about the phrase..

'Ma AahNna' is an old Haiku chant about a Nordic Warrior who led the fish to the Gulf Islands and the Fraser River. Normally done in tha Longhouse, which has acoustics like a library.

Kid stories - The crib jumper

I was swapping kid sleep time stories this afternoon and it reminded me of this..

My middle son. Who is 18 now. Was a crib jumper, he would escape his crib and sneak into bed with me.
I would say "You must sleep in your own big boy bed" He'd go along, but escape sometime in the night and be BAck in MY bed. When he got older he got sneakier, and he'd sit at the door to my room and wait for me to snore, then creep onto the end of my bed (i had a king size futon) and Id wake in the morning my feet pinned to the bed by his sleeping little self.
Sometimes I would sense he was there.. "ROman..."  I would say - he would say "what" in a whisper..
Id stiffle a giggle and say.. "you need to go get in your own bed"  "Ok" he would whisper from the doorway and not move..
"now" and he would hang his head like a poor old dog and shuffle back to bed. Then Id wake in the morning and he'd be asleep in the doorway. so sweet.

Its hard to believe he is grown now

Turkey turds

These little babies are a staple of my diet these days..
they are mini turket meatloaf
made in muffin tins
each one is 1.5 oz of protein
they are super good

i call them turkey turds or pucks

Ode goes backpacking err IS backpacking?

waterfront stroll

on this particular walk.. we got a bit too far from home and got caught in a rainstorm!!!
about halfway home.. some very nice people who thought maybe we didnt have a car as opposed to having WILLINGlY put ourselves in this position
stopped and offered us a ride!!
politely declined and hurried home
Ode was fine, and warm
mom and dad looked like drenched rats
and TODAY
I bought my very first umbrella
(what you say? no self-respecting seattlelite needs an umbrella!  well i did it for Ode, he did not enjoy wearing dads baseball hat)

walk

today was very windy for the walk.. when i came around the bend i saw this.. all the light green.. spring is busting open inside the forest! bright green and electric
the wind was roaring through the trees
and i thought twice about my decision
to be walking in the woods during a windstorm
i started imaging all the horrible ways a treebranch could break OFF!
come flying down and impale me to the ground!!
what a way to go!!!!
then i got distracted by the flowers
and forgot about my
impending peril
